Pasticcio



Ingredients:

for the minced meat mix:
  • 1/2 teacup olive oil
  • 2 chopped onions
  • 750 gr minced beef
  • 1/2 cup of peeled and cut in small cubes tomato
  • salt
  • pepper




for the sauce:
  • 6 tblspns flour
  • 8 tablespoons butter
  • 1.5 liter milk
  • 250 gr grated gruyere cheese
  • 3 eggs
  • salt
  • pepper
  • nutmeg
for the pasta:
  • 500gr pasta (number 2)
  • 4 tblspns butter
  • 250 gr grated gruyere cheese
  • salt : a little
  • pepper
  • breadcrumbs

Heat the olive oil in a pan and fry the onions until they begin to soften . Add the minced meat and cook for about 10 minutes. Add the tomato cubes, salt , pepper and simmer  for 30 minutes until most liquids have evaporated . In another pan melt the butter and add the flour. Then add the milk slowly stirring constantly.
Then prepare the sauce as follows : Heat the butter and add the flour. Stir constantly and add milk slowly . When the sauce has become creamy remove from heat and stirring constantly add (outside the fire) the grated gruyere , salt , pepper , a little nutmeg and the eggs one by one. In the meantime boil the pasta in salted water and drain them and mix them with the gruyere grated cheese and 6 tablespoons of the creamy sauce. Suffuse butter in a baking dish and sprinkle with breadcrumbs. Add the pasta mix in a layer and over it add the minced meat mix with the help of a spoon so that it covers the pasta. Then add the sauce in a way that it covers the meat layer and bake in the oven at 200 ° C for one hour until the surface is golden brown. When it is not very hot cut in rectangle pieces and serve.
